You have your sourdough, so what should you eat it with? The good news is that sourdough goes with almost everything, from breakfast to lunch to snacks. Here are easy ideas using everyday ingredients, all of which can be made with halal ingredients.

Before you start: sourdough tastes much better warmed until the crust is crisp. If it is in the freezer, reheat straight from frozen in an oven or air fryer at 180°C for about 3 minutes (see the bread care guide).

1. Butter, or butter and salt

The simplest and one of the best. Warm the bread until crisp and spread butter while it is hot, so you really taste the bread. Perfect for your first sourdough, especially the mild Signature.

2. Honey, jam or peanut butter

For something a little sweet, spread honey or fruit jam on warm sourdough. The gentle tang balances the sweetness. Peanut butter with sliced banana makes a filling breakfast.

3. Eggs, any way

  • Fried or scrambled eggs on toasted sourdough with black pepper
  • Poached eggs with mashed avocado, a squeeze of lime and salt
  • French toast: dip in egg and milk and fry in butter. Chewy sourdough holds together better than soft bread.

4. Sandwiches

Sourdough’s chewy crumb and sturdy crust keep sandwiches from going soggy. Try:

  • Tuna mayonnaise with lettuce and tomato
  • Grilled chicken (choose halal chicken) with cheese and fresh vegetables
  • Grilled cheese: butter the outside and toast in a pan until the cheese melts

5. Dip it in soup or curry

Sourdough is great with cream soups, tomato soup, stews and even Thai-style curries with a rich sauce, such as massaman or yellow curry. Tear and dip. Simple and delicious.

6. Easy bruschetta

Dice tomatoes, mix with chopped garlic, basil, olive oil and a little salt, and spoon onto toasted sourdough. A snack or starter that looks great for guests.

7. Olive oil and salt

Another classic. Pour olive oil onto a plate, add salt and pepper, and dip torn sourdough. Especially good with the fuller-flavoured Whole Wheat.

What about croissants?

Our croissants are best on their own, warmed until crisp. Let them rest for 30–60 minutes, then reheat at 180°C for about 3 minutes. For a meal, slice and fill with scrambled eggs, cheese or tuna for an easy croissant sandwich.
